Chapter 2 - Al-Baqarah

Contrary to its old commonplace and popular definition, "Al-Baqarah" in deeper Quranic literary sense, signifies the split, divide, discord and dissension in human ranks.

2:49(32) “Remember the time when we had rescued you from the people of the Faroah who kept you under the worst kind of suffering. They incapacitated/humiliated your brave and courageous sons (يُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَاءَكُمْ) and supported and encouraged your weaker ones (وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَاءَكُمْ ). And under this coercive system you faced real hard times.” (Please note that NISAA here cannot mean women, but that segment of community which was devoid of strength and manly courage.)

2:62(Hajj) 3)
(Transliteration): “Huwa allazi ba’atha fil ummiyyeena rusoolam min-hum yatlu ‘alayi-him aayaati-hi wa yu’alamma-hum ul-Kitaba wa al-Hikmata,,,wa in kaanu min Qabla la-fi Dhalaalim mubeen”-
“He is the One Who raised among the ignorant a Messenger who reads unto them His Verses and evolves them and teaches them the Book and its wisdom,,,,And verily, before this, they have been in utter transgression.”
It simply means that before the advent of Mohammad pbuh, his people were without a Scripture or a Guide and were totally ignorant of divine ideology.

2:114(4) “Hence, who could be more wicked than those who obstructed the process of taking advice and guidance from Allah’s attributes (يُذْكَرَ‌ فِيهَا اسْمُهُ) in the Divine Centers of Submission (مَسَاجِدَ اللَّـهِ ) and strove to ruin and corrupt them. Those are the ones who have no right to enter these centers except in a state of awe. For them, in this world, there is ignominy in store; and for them, in the Hereafter, a great suffering”

Siin-Miim-Waw =I s m : to be high/lofty, raised, name, attribute. samawat - heights/heavens/rain, raining clouds. ismun - mark of identification by which one is recognised. It is a derivation of wsm (pl. asma). ism - stands for a distinguishing mark of a thing, sometimes said to signify its reality.

2:125-128(Hajj)(18) (Please note that according to context (Verse: 2/122) the Word here is spoken to the Israelites which confirms that the text relates to one of the centers established by the Patriarch Abraham in their own ancient land. Therefore, it has no relation with the present so-called “Ka’bah).

“And remember that time when We had turned Our Centre of Guidance (البیت – Al-Bayit) into a place of repeated approach and consultation and a place of peace for the benefit and reformation of general public; and had commanded that they may hold firmly as their goal (مصلّٰی – Musalla) the role and character of Abraham. Moreover, we had a covenant with Abraham and Ishmael that they would keep this Centre of Ours clean and pure from infiltration of man-made ideologies and elements, by reserving it for those who monitor its safety and who maintain its discipline and who bow down to its authority and fully submit themselves to its teachings. And also remember that time when Abraham said; O Sustainer, please make this land a symbol of peace and award its inhabitants the pleasant results of their faith, especially to those among them who believe in God and the Hereafter. God had accepted his request and had decreed that those among them who would adopt the way of infidelity, would be rewarded but a little and, later on, would be driven by Him to the torment of fire, which is a terrible end. And also remember that time when Abraham and Ishmael were formulating the rules and regulations for this Centre of divine teachings and making them upheld in high esteem, their tongues chanting this prayer: O our Sustainer, please accept this from us because You are the All-knowing and All-aware. O our Lord, make us the followers unto your laws and principles and raise from our posterity people who may submit unto you. And brief us about the ways to purify and evolve our selfs and our characters. Please turn towards us with mercy because you are the Acceptor of repentance and the Merciful.”

2:139(Hajj) (Hajj: Tuhaajjoona-na – تحاجوننا ) “Tell them Do you argue with us (atuhaajjuna-na- أَتُحَاجُّونَنَا ) about God in spite of knowing well that He is our Lord as well as yours? In this case we must say that unto us will be accounted our deeds and unto you, your deeds, and unto Him alone we devote ourselves in all earnestness.”

2:144-145(Hajj)(18) “And we have noted your attention (وَجْهِكَ – Wajha-ka ) turning towards heavens (فِي السَّمَاءِ –fis-samaa’) seeking success of your mission; hence we will certainly make you achieve the objectives of your great mission (قِبْلَةً - Qiblatan) to your pleasure and satisfaction (تَرْ‌ضَاهاَ - tardha-ha ). For that purpose you must concentrate on God’s inviolable Commandments (الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَ‌امِ – Al-Masjid al-Haraam). And all of you wherever you are, are directed to concentrate in the same direction. All those who have been given the Books of guidance are well aware of that truth from their Lord, and that the God is not ignorant of the way of life they are following. However, they tend not to follow your targets (تَبِعُوا قِبْلَتَك ما – maa tabe’oo Qiblatak) even if you may present to them all viable arguments or signs, because of the fact that you do not stand in agreement with their motives. Among themselves as well, they do not follow a single determined target or way of life. And if so happens that you might start following their wishes after having received the Divine Knowledge, you may also be regarded as one of the violators of merit (الظَّالِمِينَ- Dhaalimen).”

2:146-150(Hajj)(18) “In fact those whom we have granted the Scriptures, they are aware of its contents as minutely as they know their own offspring. But it is also a fact that a group among them deliberately keeps the truth hidden. Indeed that truth comes from your Lord, hence you should never doubt it. He is the one who attracts every one’s attention as it happens by virtue of His inspirations. In this respect you need to excell in the acts of goodness. In this way wherever you will be, God would help your endeavors bear fruit; because it is the God who has formulated and promulgated laws for each and every act and its end results. Therefore, in whatever situation you advance towards your purpose, keep your attention concentrated on the inviolable commandments of your Lord because those are based on the truth revealed by your Lord. And be cautious because your Lord is never unaware of what course you are following. And whatever you strive for, keep in mind always your Lord’s Inviolable Commands, and in whatever circumstances you may fall in, never divert your attention away for it so that your conduct may stand out as an example for fellow human beings, with the exception of a few who are so cruel as to disregard merit. But never be afraid of such people. Fear is due only from violation of My commands. And bear in mind that this course of action is necessary to warrant My blessings and bounties for you, and to make you the guided men of character”.

2:154-155(7) “And say not of those who are slain in God's cause, "they are dead": nay, they are rather alive in a higher stage which you perceive not in your present stage of life. And most certainly shall We continue giving you opportunities for your evolution to higher stages by passing you through fear, and hunger, and loss of worldly goods, of lives and of labor’s fruits. So, do give glad tidings unto those who exercise patience in adversity.”

2:158(Hajj)(18) “Indeed the purity of self and kindness and benevolence are among the attributes of God. Therefore, whoever has debated to arrive at a conclusion in the sacred Centre of Divine Guidance, or eventually, has decide to live his life in keeping with those teachings, there remains no difficulties in his way to safeguard these attributes and to keep them fresh and alive. Whoever contributed voluntarily in the acts of goodness, he should know that God is aware of his efforts and rewards them with pleasant results.”

2:173 - See 5:3(3)  “Prohibited for you is to become dead by losing your intellect (al-Mayitatah); or smear your account with human blood; or to get close to the ill-natured, cunning ones; or to embrace an ideology by which a name of other than Allah is raised (أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ‌ اللَّـهِ بِهِ ) . And also declared unlawful for you is to crush an individual or group by silencing their voice (al-Munkhaniqah); or kill them through mental and physical torture (al-Mauqoodah); or throw someone into oblivion by depriving his acquired high status (al-mutaraddiyah); or to push someone to ill-fate and bad luck (an-nateehah); and to create a state of affairs where all human values have been devoured by terror and brutality (wa maa akalas subu’u) except the few ones which you might have saved and cultivated (maa zakkayitum); or to sacrifice someone’s career/life on the pretext of a self-designed goal or standard (wa maa zubiha ‘alan nusubi); or to create rift among people by adopting faulty policies (tastaqsimoo bil-azlaam). ِIt must be borne in mind that all the above policy steps fall under the crimes of misconduct and corruption (fisq). It is these values of your discipline that have made the deniers of truth disappointed and remorseful. Hence you need now to give up your fear of them and keep my glory always in view. At this juncture of the passing time I have completed for you your permanent way of conduct and, by that, have fully blessed you with ease and comforts; and the peace and security of humanity has been appointed as your destination. Keeping vigilant about the above guideline, whosoever among you may find himself in a fix (فِي مَخْمَصَةٍ), while having no intentions towards evil (غَيْرَ‌ مُتَجَانِفٍ لِّإِثْمٍ ), God would bless him with his protection and mercy.”

2:183(8) “O YOU who have attained to faith & peace! Training in abstention/restraint from evil practices (Al-Siyaam) is ordained for you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you might remain conscious of God:”

2:184(8) “As these are days of preparations (معْدُودَاتٍ - readiness, preparedness) for your great mission, those of you who still are weak and doubtful about their convictions (مَّرِ‌يضًا), or are still midway in the journey of truth seeking (عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ‌), they may postpone their preparations till another time. And for those who might face other difficulties in getting ready, they may, as a compensation/alternative thereof (فدْيَةٌ), fulfil the needs of a helpless one (طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ ). Whoever would volunteer (تَطَوَّعَ) for good deeds that would go a long way for his own good. And if you keep yourself restrained from wrong (تَصُومُوا), it is the best way for you if you have already become aware of such conduct.”

2:185(8) “It was the prevalent deplorable state (شَهْرُ ) of burning violence and tyranny (رَ‌مَضَانَ ) in which the Qur'an was bestowed as a “timeless mode of conduct” (هُدًى) unto man and a self-evident proof of that guidance, and as the standard by which to discern the true from the false (الْفُرْ‌قَانِ). Hence, whoever of you faced this situation, he must abstain from being a part of it (فَلْيَصُمْهُ). And it is again emphasized that those who still suffer from weakness or doubt about their convictions, or are midway in the journey of seeking, may postpone their involvement in this movement to a later time. It is because God wills that you may have ease and abundance (الْيُسْرَ‌), and does not will you to suffer hardship and want (الْعُسْرَ); but He desires that you must accomplish your preparedness any way so that you extol God’s glory the way He has guided you to do; and He desires that your efforts may bear fruit (تَشْكُرُ‌ونَ);”

2:186(8) “and that when My subjects may ask thee about Me, you can assert that I am near; and I do respond to the caller when he calls unto Me: let them, then, respond unto Me, and believe in Me, so that they might follow the right way.”

2:187(8) “During the dark period of non-restraint ( لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ ), it was made lawful for you to make your weaker segments (Nissa’i-kum ) a target of insult and abuse (al-Rafath- الرَّ‌فَثُ), although they are as essential for you (Libaasul-la-kum) in your society as you are for them. God is aware that you have been usurping your people’s rights (تَخْتَانُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ). He has however turned unto you in His mercy and has forgiven you. Now, then, you may keep in close touch with them (بَاشِرُ‌وهُنَّ), and charge them (ابْتَغُوا) for only as much as God has ordained fair for you (مَا كَتَبَ اللَّـهُ لَكُمْ ). And acquire knowledge (وَكُلُوا) and reform your conduct (وَاشْرَ‌بُوا) enabling you to discern the right from the wrong (الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ) in the light of Quran (مِنَ الْفَجْرِ); And spread the spirit of abstention and restraint (أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ) across the darkness of tyranny and exploitation (إِلَى اللَّيْلِ ). When you are still in the stage of deliberations in respect of divine commandments and formulation of subsequent rules and regulations thereof (عَاكِفُونَ فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ ), avoid spreading any glad tidings among your people (وَلَا تُبَاشِرُ‌وهُنَّ). These are the limitations/parameters set by God for you. Do not offend against them. It is thus that God makes clear His instructions unto mankind so that they all become conscious of Him”.

2:187(32) “As long as there was total absence (لَيْلَةَ) of the practice of abstention-from-evil (الصِّيَامِ), you were allowed (أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ) to exercise foul language and indecent manners (الرَّ‌فَثُ) towards your weaker classes (نِسَائِكُمْ); whereas, in the society they are an integral part of you just as you are inevitable for them (هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَّكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَّهُنَّ ). Allah very well knew that you have been usurping the rights of your own people (كُنتُمْ تَخْتَانُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ); but He has turned towards you and has forgiven you. Therefore, now establish direct relationship with them (باشِرُ‌وهُنَّ) and seek just as much as Allah has ordained for you. And do acquire knowledge (وَكُلُوا) and follow the respective conduct (وَاشْرَ‌بُوا) so that it may help you discern the difference between white and black, viz., good (الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ) and evil (الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ) in light of the dawn of your Doctrine (مِنَ الْفَجْرِ‌ ); subsequently, complete the spreading (أَتِمُّوا) of your discipline of Abstinence-from-evil (الصِّيَامَ) up to the darkness of ignorance (إِلَى اللَّيْلِ ) around you. Moreover, when you still are in the stage of deliberation for formulation of policies (عَاكِفُونَ) with regard to the promulgation of Divine Commandments (فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ ), do refrain from spreading the word of glad tidings among your weaker segments (وَلَا تُبَاشِرُ‌وهُنَّ) . These are the limitations prescribed by Allah, so don’t venture near to their breach. Allah clearly explains His injunctions to you in order that you may make others conscious of His laws.”

2:188(8) “And (it is repeated that you) GRAB NOT one another's possessions wrongfully, and neither get access up to the local authorities in this behalf with a view to acquiring a part of pe ople’s property in a criminal manner, fully knowing that you are committing a transgression.”

2:189(Hajj) “They ask you about the strategy with regard to the impending phase of open and loud preaching (الْأَهِلَّةِ ) of Divine Faith. Tell them that the time has arrived when people may be gathered through open proclamations for their spiritual evolution(مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ), and for accepting the eternal truth through intellectual argumentation(َالْحَجِّ ). Hence, it is no practical evidence of your faith, courage and spirit that you may carry the teachings to the elite class of society by secret means(مِن ظُهُورِ‌هَا). The right way of faith and missionary spirit(الْبِرَّ‌) is of those who have gained spiritual strength through piousness. So, communicate your message to your elite class (الْبُيُوتَ) with courage, openly and loudly (أَبْوَابِهَا ۚ). The way to attain a lofty status is to keep in mind the divine guidance so that your efforts may bear fruit.”

2:189(8)(18) “THEY WILL ASK thee about the possibility of open and loud dissemination of the Divine Discipline (الْأَهِلَّةِ). Tell them that the time has come when people are openly gathered together for their spiritual advancement (مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ) and for securing their intended faith (الْحَجِّ ). It is not the pious way to convey your teachings to society’s elite class through back doors, or in a clandestine way. The piety reflects itself in getting spiritually stronger first, and then presenting your message to the elite class from the front doors, namely, through open proclamations. The way to attain success is to keep the divine guidance always in view.”

Haa-Jiim-Jiim = to intend to a certain target, aim at, repair, undertake, repaired/betook himself to or towards a person / place / object of veneration/respect/honour, went/visit frequently/repeatedly, pilgrimage.
Overcome another by/in argument/evidences/proofs/testimonies, plead, contend/argue/dispute.
Refrain/abstain.

2:190(8) “AND FIGHT in God's cause against only those who wage war against you, but do not commit aggression - for, verily, God does not love aggressors.”

2:191(8) “And fight the aggressors wherever you may come upon them, and drive them away from wherever they drove you away - for oppression is even worse than killing. And fight not against them as long as the restrictive commands/conditions are applicable until they come down to a violation thereof and start fighting. Then if they fight against you, you also retaliate. Such shall be the recompense of those who deny the truth.”

2:192(8) “But if they desist - behold, God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace.”

2:193(8) “Hence, fight against them until there is no more oppression and the divine discipline is enforced. But if they desist, then all hostility shall cease, save against those who wilfully do wrong."

2:194(8) “In case prohibitive conditions (الشَّهْرُ‌ الْحَرَ‌امُ) are imposed upon you by the enemy, you can also retaliate with similar prohibitive conditions (بِالشَّهْرِ‌ الْحَرَ‌امِ ); and it is understood that any violation(الْحُرُ‌مَاتُ ) thereof results in just retribution (قِصَاصٌ ). Thus, if anyone commits aggression against you, you transgress against him just in the same measure as he has done against you – but, in these acts, remain always conscious of God, and know that God is with those who remain conscious of Him.”

2:195(8) “And spend freely in God's cause, and let not your own hands throw you into destruction; and persevere in doing good: behold, God loves the righteous ones”.

2:196(8)(18) “AND secure fully your intended target of faith (الْحَجَّ ) and then remodel your living (وَالْعُمْرَ‌ةَ ) for the sake of God (لِلَّـهِ ). But if you are surrounded by hostile circumstances, then follow that part of the guidance which may deem easier to you. And do not encircle or approach (تَحْلِقُوا) your chieftains (رُ‌ءُوسَكُمْ ) until the principles of guidance (الْهَدْيُ ) have reached (يَبْلُغَ ) their target and have become well established (مَحِلَّهُ ). In spite of that, if one of you suffers from deficiency in knowledge, or is put in a difficult/painful state by his local chief/commander/authority, then he must either compensate for it (فَفِدْيَةٌ) by educating himself in the discipline of self-restraint (مِّن صِيَامٍ), or try to prove his righteousness (صَدَقَةٍ), or work more for his inner purification (نُسُكٍ). And then, when things settle down, those who have been blessed with a pious living (بِالْعُمْرَ‌ةِ ), and have achieved their target of faith in God (إِلَى الْحَجِّ), they must abide by what has become easy and available for them from the precious rules of guidance. As for those to whom such has not become easy yet, they must undergo three rounds of training in self restraint (فَصِيَامُ) in the course of their intended target of faith (فِي الْحَجِّ ) As for those who have abandoned or turned back from this mission altogether, it will be necessary to undergo many rounds of training (وَسَبْعَةٍ إِذَا رَ‌جَعْتُمْ ). This is how a perfect divine community if formed (تِلْكَ عَشَرَ‌ةٌ كَامِلَةٌ). This particular course of action is prescribed for those groups of people who are still not qualified or competent (لَّمْ يَكُنْ أَهْلُهُ) to submit to the respected commandments/laws/regulations, or to remain in obedience to them (حَاضِرِ‌ي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَ‌امِ ). Nevertheless you all must collectively remain conscious of God and be constantly aware that Allah is severe in retribution.”

= Ayn-Miim-Ra عمر؛ = to inhabit, dwell, mend, repair/revive, tend, build, promote, cultivate, make habitable, to make better, to develop, populate, to serve/uphold/observe/regard, to visit, to colonize, aimed at it, frequently visit, a visit in which is the cultivation of love/affection, repairing to an inhabited place; perform a sacred visitation, minor pilgrimmage, pilgrimmage with fewer rites; to remain alive (save life), to live, life, age, long-life, old-age.

2:196(3) And to meet the divinely appointed goals (لِلَّـهِ ), conclude discussions leading to your final submission to Divine Discipline (الْحَجَّ ) and devote your lives for its spread and promotion (وَالْعُمْرَ‌ةَ ). But if you are prevented due to unfavourable circumstances, then follow whatever has become available to you previously of the precious values of conduct (مِنَ الْهَدْيِ ). And do not approach and surround your chiefs/elders/elite (َلا تحْلِقُوا رُ‌ءُوسَكُمْ ) until the precious values of conduct have been fully disseminated around (يَبْلُغَ ) and fully established in their right places (مَحِلَّهُ ). And whoever among you may still suffer from a weakness or doubt about his faith and belief (َّمرِ‌يضًا), or has become liable for a sentence by his chief/elder (أَذًى مِّن رَّ‌أْسِهِ) he should compensate (فَفِدْيَةٌ ) for this by undergoing training for abstinence (صِيَامٍ), or otherwise prove his standpoint as true (صَدَقَةٍ), or carry out a cleansing operation of his inner self (نُسُكٍ).
And when you are settled in peace, then whoever may decide to benefit from a life of pursuit of truth (تَمَتَّعَ بِالْعُمْرَ‌ةِ )and has reached the state of concluding his issue of faith (الْحَجِّ ), he must adhere with the precious values of conduct made available to him (اسْتَيْسَرَ‌ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ ). And whoever may not find him in this situation, he must undergo three rounds of training in abstinence (فَصِيَامُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ) to reach the conclusion about his faith (فِي الْحَجِّ ). For those who have withdrawn completely from this process (إِذَا رَ‌جَعْتُمْ ), they would need a number of learning/training sessions (سَبْعَةٍ ) afresh. This is the only methodology to build a perfect society This procedure is prescribed particularly for those who do not qualify (لِمَن لَّمْ يَكُنْ أَهْلُهُ ) yet for submission to the divine commandments (حَاضِرِ‌ي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَ‌امِ )or to follow them in letter and spirit. Nevertheless, you all must act circumspectly and beware that Allah’s accountability is very severe.

2:196(Hajj) “Moreover, to obey God’s will, conclude your discussions and arguments about the Discipline descended by Him(وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ ) and then live your life in the pursuit of its advancement (وَالْعُمْرَ‌ةَ ). In case you find yourself captive of unfavorable circumstances rendering this duty dormant, then keep acting upon whatever may be available from the precious values and principles of character building (الْهَدْيِ ). And in such conditions, do not circumvent your elite class unless the precious values and principles of guidance are well spread and circulated (ٰ يَبْلُغَ الْهَدْيُ) and have made a firm place of their own (مَحِلَّهُ ۚ). In spite of that whoever may still find himself weak or in doubt in respect of his faith, or faces some hardship from his elders, he should compensate that lapse by acquiring a training in abstinence (Siyaam ), or prove his standpoint/stance as right (Sadaqatan ), or carry out a self-purification process(nusukin ). And when you revert to a favorable situation of peace and tranquility, then whoever among you has benefitted from the conclusive debate process(الْحَجِّ) and then has been living in the pursuit and promotion of truth (وَالْعُمْرَ‌ةَ), he should remain steadfast in that pursuit. And whoever has not attained that status, he may, in connection with the conclusive debate process(فِي الْحَجِّ ), acquire 3 phases of training in abstinence. For those who have relinquished this process, or have abandoned it altogether, you are going to need several courses of relevant training (وَسَبْعَةٍ إِذَا رَ‌جَعْتُمْ ). This is the way towards formulation of a perfect society (عَشَرَ‌ةٌ كَامِلَةٌ َ ). It must be kept in mind that this process is proposed for only those whose capacity or capability is still not sufficient to surrender to the inviolable divine commandments or to keep acting upon them (حَاضِرِ‌ي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَ‌امِ). Nevertheless, all of you, on collective basis, keep safeguarding the God’s commandments and be aware that God is severe in retribution.”

2:197(Hajj)  “Under the Divine Guidance, the right way of a conclusive debating process (Hajj) is prescribed under a well-known and accepted methodology(الْحَجُّ أَشْهُرٌ‌ مَّعْلُومَاتٌ ۚ). So, whoever makes the Hajj mandatory on himself in consonance with this method (فَرَ‌ضَ فِيهِنَّ الْحَجَّ ), must bear in mind that in the course of a conclusive debate and arguments (فِي الْحَجِّ ), no violation of laws and principles, no quarrelling or dispute, and no foul-mouthing is permissible. Hence, whatever beautiful way you may adopt in this process, will be recorded in the divine archives. So, move forward as the best way of human evolution is your advancement in piety. So, O people of knowledge and intellect, adopt the way of piety.”

2:197(8)(18) “It is widely known (أَشْهُرٌ‌ مَّعْلُومَاتٌ ) how to reach the intended target of faith (الْحَجُّ ). Thus, whoever undertakes to reach the intended target through debate according to this known procedure (فَمَن فَرَ‌ضَ فِيهِنَّ الْحَجَّ), he will not resort to contemptuous language (رَ‌فَثَ), to breaking the law and order (فُسُوقَ), to quarrel against one another (جِدَالَ). Whatever good behaviour you will display, Allah would definitely be aware of it. So, forge ahead, as the best way of evolution is the God consciousness. Hence, O you, who are endowed with insight, follow the way of God consciousness”.

2:198(Hajj) “While carrying out the above duty it is not at all prohibited if you continue working for your sustenance, viz., doing your job or business. And when after reaching the stage of confession and testifying (‘Arafaat - عَرَ‌فَاتٍ ), you become enlightened with the absolute truth (afadh-tum - ), you should always keep in mind the divine commandments whenever you encounter any characteristic behavior which is declared prohibited/unlawful (الْمَشْعَرِ‌ الْحَرَ‌امِ ۖ ). And keep remembering Him as He has commanded you to do even if earlier you have been in waywardness.”

2:198(8)(18) “However, you will be committing no sin if, during this discourse, you seek to continue earning your livelihood. And when you acquire the stage of full awareness and are filled with (أَفَضْتُم) the knowledge of truth (عَرَ‌فَاتٍ), you must always keep in view the divine commandments when facing any prohibited rituals or conduct (عِندَ الْمَشْعَرِ‌ الْحَرَ‌امِ), and keep His attributes in mind the way He has commanded you to do, although earlier you indeed were going astray”

2:199(Hajj) Afterwards, spread the knowledge acquired by you (afeedhu - أَفِيضُوا )just as the humans move about on the earth swarming everywhere. And keep asking God for safety. Indeed God is the best protector and merciful.”

2:199(8)(18) “And spread your knowledge just as the multitudes of men are scattered all over; and seek protection from God. Indeed God is the Protector and the Dispenser of Grace.”

2:200(Hajj) “And when you have carried out the task of purifying your inner self (qazayi-tum manasika-kum - فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُم مَّنَاسِكَكُمْ), keep remembering God’s Laws/Attributes even afterwards, just as you remember your elders/ancestors, or even in a higher degree of remembrance. Also in contrast, you may find such humans among you who would keep insisting that : O our Sustainer, grant us all bounties of this worldly life. But for such men there’s no share in the next higher stage of life.”

2:200(8)(18) “And when you have performed the acts of your inner purification (مَّنَاسِكَكُمْ), keep always remembering God in your mind like your remembrance of your own great elders - nay, with a yet keener remembrance! And know that there are some who pray, "O our Sustainer! Do reward us is in this world (with the worldly luxuries)" - and such shall not partake in the blessings of the life to come”.

2:201(8) “And there are among them such as pray, "O our Sustainer! Grant us good in this world and good in the life to come, and keep us safe from suffering through the fire of remorse": it is these for whom there is a fortune in return for what they have earned. And God is swift in reckoning.”

2:217(Hajj)(18) “They ask you about the restrictive conditions (Ash-shahr ul Haram - الشَّهْرِ‌ الْحَرَ‌امِ) imposed by some agreements and to wage war during their validity period. Tell them that while those conditions prevail, it’s a major violation of ethics to wage a war; rather it is tantamount to drift away from God’s path and to deny His prescribed course. It is also a denial of his inviolable commandments (Al-Masjid al-Haraam - وَالْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَ‌امِ) and causes expulsion of His people from the fold of the faithful. Moreover, to create rifts and differences in the community on any account is worse than murder. Although they (the enemies) will not give up confrontations until they drive you away from your ideology, yet, whoever among you may give up his ideology and die in a state of denial, he may ruin his good deeds in both the worldly life and the Hereafter. Such ones would be entitled to a torment of fire, which they would suffer eternally.”

2:219(42)   Your responsible officers will ask you about the intoxication of power and authority (Al-Khumr) and the abundance and comforts gained there from (Al-Mayisarah). Tell them, in both there is great evil for your character, though some benefits may be obvious; but the evil which they generate is greater than the benefits which they tempt you in." And they will ask thee as to how much of the resources they should leave open/make available in God's cause. Say: "All that can be spared." In this way God makes clear unto you His messages, so that you might reflect in the perspective of this world and the Hereafter.

Note: Please do analyze how the powerful tyrants, upon getting exposed by Quranic verdict, have radically transformed the expressions of Khmr and Mayisar into commonplace literal meanings.

2:220(42)   And they will ask thee about the issue of orphans. Say: "To rehabilitate them is best." And if you share your family life with them, they will become your brethren/family: for God distinguishes between him who spoils things and him who reforms. And had God so willed He would indeed have imposed such hardships upon you too which you would not have been able to bear: Indeed God has all the might, and He is wise too!

2:221(42)   And do not enter into close working ties/agreements (Tankihu) with polytheist groups/communities (Al-Mushrikaat) until they become believers and peace loving, because a peace-keeper group is better than a polytheist group even if the latter may appear worthy of your liking. And also do not have close relations with polytheist individuals (Al-Mushrikeen) until they convert to believers in peace. A peace-keeping subject is always better than a polytheist one though the latter may look admirable to you. They are those who invite you towards the fire of remorse, whereas Allah, with his laws/guidance invites you to a life of paradise and protection/safety. And He explains his signs/directives for the multitude of humans so that they must keep those in mind and take advice from.

2:222(42)   “AND these operatives will also ask thee about the parties still engaged in bloodletting (al-Muhayiz): Tell them "It is a painful and abhorrent state of affairs (Azan). Keep, therefore your vulnerable masses (an-Nisaa) away and safe (A’taziloo) from this bloodletting. And do not draw near to these warring factions until they exercise restraint (yatahharna); and when they stop from this act, establish close relations with them the way God has bidden you to do." Verily, God loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and He loves those who keep themselves clean from misdeeds.”

Note: This Verse necessitates some explanation for those of us who are not aware of its historical and linguistic background.

The natural question arises at this juncture as to which particular bloodshed is meant here by Al-Muhayiz, a proper noun.  God has only hinted at it without naming.  It is important to keep in mind here that during almost the entire period of the Holy Messenger’s tenure, a 20 year long series of battles and bloodshed on an unprecedented scale had persisted between the two great empires of their time in the very near neighborhood.  Though the Quran doesn’t refer to this bloodshed by name, but its use of Al-Muhayiz (Ism-e-Ma’arfah), instead of only Muhayiz, and the government elders seeking his advice on this hot issue, can most probably relate to that particular well known continued bloodshed.  Moreover, the word Al-Muhayiz is the noun of time and place and ‘source’; which means that it’s not women’s bleeding, but a particular state of affairs causing bloodshed.

You will also kindly observe from traditionist translations that the word An-Nisaa is not only defined as women but also as WIVES.  This is an illegitimate interpolation in the Quran as Nisaa does not denote WIVES at all. Hence this also is a part of the big Hoax.

Please note that while they talk of WOMEN getting cleansed from an “unclean state”, it is immediately followed by the words “Tawwabeen” and “Mutatahhirin”, meaning “males” who have gotten cleansed and repentant.  It proves that no females were under discussion in this Verse and were not required to be cleansed from a dirty state, and the word NISAA was used for the male plural groups.  Apart from all that, a natural temporary state of women’s menstruation can’t be called a dirty one.

Again, you have also seen that “A’tazilu an-Nisaa” does not mean “keep away FROM Nisaa” (because they are dirty), but to keep the “vulnerable masses away from the ravages of Wars”.

The very next sentence confirms that the Quran here is talking about the lower cadres of the masses.

2:223(32) “Your communities’ weaker segments/the downtrodden masses (نِسَاؤُكُمْ) are your true national wealth and assets (حَرْ‌ثٌ). Therefore, keep close contact with your assets in whatever way you may wish. And help your own people to establish themselves on strong and respectable footings (وَقَدِّمُوا لِأَنفُسِكُمْ ). And in this way show your concern with Law of God (وَاتَّقُوا اللَّـهَ) and do remember that all of you have to face him for accountability (ملاقُوهُ). The people of faith and peace, who act likewise, must be given glad tidings”.

2:223(42)   “Your lower cadres (Nisaa’u-kum) are your real national wealth and assets (Harth-u-kum); keep then direct working relationship unto your national assets as you may desire, but keep providing them for their progress and stability (Qaddimu). And remain conscious of God’s commandments, and know that you are liable to justify your actions to Him. And always keep direct rapport with your responsible officers. “

2:224(42)   “AND DO NOT allow your oaths in the name of God to become an obstacle to virtue, God-consciousness and the reformation process of your men: for God is all-hearing, all-knowing.”

Note: In the fabricated traditionist translations this verse is grossly misrepresented where women folk have been humiliated by symbolizing them with “your cultivable land”.

2:225(42)   “And keep in mind in this context that God will not take you to task for oaths which you may have uttered without thought, but will take you to task [only] for what your hearts have conceived in earnest: for God is much-forgiving, forbearing.”

2:226(42)   “If rulers fall short in fulfilling the needs and rights of their masses (Yu’loona min Nisaai-him), the people must keep patience (tarabbas) for some time expecting a better and prosperous situation to develop (Arba’ati ashhur). Then if they are granted their rights, they will acknowledge that God is forgiving and generous.”

2:227(42)   “But if the situation persists and they resolve on separation from allegiance (‘azamu at-Tallaaq), behold, God is all-hearing, all-knowing of their plight.”

2:228(42)   And those having separated from allegiance (الْمُطَلَّقَاتُ ) shall withhold (يَتَرَبَّصْنَ )themselves up to three stages of study and investigation (ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُوءٍ ). It is not fair for them that they hide that companionship that God had created by virtue of their recent close mutual relationship, if they believe in God and the Hereafter. And their elders/seniors (ba’oolata-hunna) have preferential rights to draw them back (bi raddi-hinna)and restore to their old status by committing to remove the causes of separation. If they have their rights, they also have their obligations or duties towards State to perform. And those on the seats of authority do have a higher position over them (lil-Rajjalu ‘alayi-hinna darajatun). However, the real Authority rests with God, the Wise One.

2:229(42)  …..It means that the procedure of freedom from allegiance (Attalaaq) must be undertaken in two steps (marrataan). It may be possible during its course to join each other again (imsaakun) in a respectable way, or ultimately to become free altogether later on. In such a situation it is not allowed to you to demand return of that which you have provided them with. This can be done only in case both parties fear violating the limits/values prescribed by God. Hence, if you fear that both parties are not safeguarding the limits, there’s no sin if some compensation is paid in this process. These are bounds set by God; do not, then, transgress them: for they who transgress the bounds set by God, they violate the values of justice and fair-play.

2:23042)   Therefore if a group or regional unit is set free from allegiance, it is no longer fair for a government to force them to stay on, so that they feel free to enter into a close working agreement with another nation or leadership.

Then, if the latter may set them free, there shall be no sin upon either of the former parties to revert to one another if they think that they will be able to keep within the bounds set by God: for these are the bounds of God which He makes clear unto people of knowledge.

2:231(42)   It means that if you set a segment of your people free from your Center (izaa talaqtum an-Nisaa), and that group may have reached the end of separation process (balaghna ajala-hunna), you can still either re-enter into an allegiance in a respectable way, or otherwise, bid them a final farewell; do not keep them linger on in a harmful way which might cause you to transgress your limits. Whoever would commit such transgression he would be doing an injustice to his own self. Therefore, do not take these commandments in a casual or frivolous way; and keep in mind always the blessings with which God has graced you, and all the revelation and the wisdom which He has bestowed on you in order to admonish you thereby; and remain conscious of God, and know that God has full knowledge of everything.

2:232(42)   And when you disengage a population unit from control and allegiance, and they have come to the end of their separation process, hinder them not from establishing other allegiances if they have agreed with each other in a fair manner. This is an admonition unto every one of you who believes in God and the Hereafter; it is the most virtuous way of conduct for you, and the cleanest. And God knows what this implies, whereas you do not know.

2:233(42)   And the governmental bodies responsible for providing sustenance to the masses(al-Walidaat) must be directed to do so(yarzi’na) by reaching perfection in two respects (haulayina kaamilayin), if they have genuine intentions to do so; for new generations they must provide sustenance as well as education and training (rizqu-hunna wa kiswatu-hunna). No human being shall be burdened with more than he is well able to bear: neither shall a mother be made to suffer because of her child, nor, because of his child, he who has begotten it. The heir may also not be made to suffer. In spite of this ideal situation, if both parties still decide by mutual consent and counsel upon separation (in iraada fasaalan) they will incur no sin thereby. And if you still decide to keep providing sustenance for your younger generations, you will incur no sin provided you surrender in a fair manner what you have handed over to them. But remain conscious of God, and know that God sees all that you do.

2:234(42)   And those of you whose rights have been paid in full (yutawaffawna) and they now look forward to further expansion and strengthening of their people (yazuroona azwaajan), they should hope for more prosperous conditions (arba’ata ashhur) through their people’s own efforts (bi anfusi-hinna). When noted that they have reached their goals, there shall be no sin in allowing them autonomy in whatever they may do with their people in a lawful manner. And God keeps knowledge of all that you do.

2:235(42)   And no problem for your government if you offer in your public address whatever you wish to do for your people’s benefit, or keep it to yourselves. Allah well knows that you will always take cognizance of their problems. But the proper way is not to make secret promises, but to express your intentions clearly in a befitting manner. And do not make hasty conclusions on the performance of a mutual working agreement until its deadline is reached. And know that God knows what is in your minds, and therefore remain conscious of Him; and know too, that God is much-forgiving, forbearing.

2:236(42)   You will incur no sin if you set free from allegiance or dominion a regional community from which you have still not derived a due benefit or have assigned them certain duties to be performed. Even in such a case make provisions for them – to the affluent according to his means, and the poor according to his means. It’s a duty upon kind-hearted ones (rulers).

2:237(42)   And if you have set them free before having any service from them, but have committed to give them some financial benefits, pay them half of what you had settled - unless it be that they forgo their claim or he (the state institution) in whose hand is the power of decision, forgoes the claim: and to forgo what is due to you is more in accord with God-consciousness. And forget not the grace you have had towards one another: verily, God sees all that you do.

2:238(42)   BE EVER mindful of the divinely assigned duties (Salaat), and be conscious of the pivotal duty (Salat al-Wustaa) – that of remaining steadfast and vigilant in the accomplishment of God’s great plan.

2:239(42)   But if you are in a state of fear, still perform your duties walking or riding; and when you are again in a state of peace, bear God’s Attributes in mind just as He has taught you to do, what you did not previously know.

2:240(42)   AND those of your people whose rights have been given in full and they are still worried about their people’s progress and security, they should order/bequeath for them means of attaining that goal fully, without their being obliged to leave. If, however, they decide to leave, there shall be no obligation upon you in whatever they may do with themselves in a lawful manner. All dominance and wisdom is only for God.

2:241(42)   And the separated units shall have a right to means of sustenance in a goodly manner: this is a duty for all who are conscious of God.
۔

NOTE: We are back to fighting against tyranny in the next Verses. Translation up to Verse 246 that follows is given for the sole purpose of proving that the preceding topic just cannot relate with Divorce.

2:24242)   In this way God makes clear unto you His messages, so that you might learn to use your reason.

2:243(42)   ART THOU NOT aware of such people’s example as may have forsaken their homelands in their thousands for fear of death-whereupon God’s law may have ordained their destruction; and subsequently have restored them again as a vibrant society. Behold, God is indeed bountiful unto man -but most people do not make their efforts fruitful as directed.

2:244(42)   Do not shun fighting, then, in God's cause, and know that God is all-hearing, all-knowing.

2:245(42)   Who is it that will offer up unto God a goodly loan, which He will amply repay him with multiple increase? For, God takes away, and He gives abundantly; and it is unto Him that you shall be brought back.

2:246(42)   "Art thou not aware of those elders of the children of Israel, after the time of Moses, how they said unto a leader of theirs, "Raise up a king for us, [and] we shall fight in God's cause"? Said he: "Would you, perchance, refrain from fighting if fighting is ordained for you?" They answered: "And why should we not fight in God's cause when we and our children have been driven out of our homeland?" Yet, when fighting was ordained for them, they did turn back, save for a few of them; but God had full knowledge of the evildoers."

2:275(29) “Those who indulge in unfair/exorbitant profiteering (Al-Riba), their status becomes equal to that one whose intellect is negatively influenced(یتخبطہ) by the sentiments of transgression(شطن؛ سرکشی؛ شیطان) from the Divine Commandments. This insane stage is manifest (ذلک) in the fact that such people would start propagating that TRADE is always identified with UNLIMITED PROFIT,,,or is a form of the same(مثل الربا). On the contrary, the truth is that Allah swt declares all kinds of trade as fair, but prohibits (حرّم) securing unfair and unlimited profits (الربا) there from.”

2:276(29) “Allah swt ordains doing away with multiplying additions in wealths (Al-Riba), and recommends addition/growth in Tax Revenues”.
